The Ghanaian Athletes have arrived in Plymouth and training is underway
On Tuesday July 10, three athletes, one weightlifter and their support staff arrived at Heathrow from Accra Airport, and then traveled to their training base at UCP Marjon, Plymouth. On arrival late at night the team were greeted by Marjon staff and volunteers who were extremely excited about having Olympic Competitors staying and training at the University.
After a well earned rest, the Ghanaians jumped straight into action on Wednesday morning, and took part in a press conference which included children from local schools who had prepared questions for the team.
The children then took part in sporting activities, with the athletes looking on and taking part in photo opportunities with the children. The highlight for many of the children was being presented with gold chocolate coins by the athletes; these coins had kindly been supplied by Divine Chocolate, whose chocolate comes from a Fair Trade co-operative in Ghana.
The athletes were keen to begin training, and later that day took part in their first training session at Brickfields.
Make sure you visit this web page later in the week for more updates on the team and of course more photos!
