Twin Cities

Sekondi-Takoradi

Sekondi-Takoradi is located on the West Coast of Ghana approximately four hours from the Capital, Accra.

The city has a population of around 250,000, with the main trades being derived either from its location as a port - fishing and shipping, or from an emerging trade as a tourist destination.

Nearby, on the 'Gold Coast', are some beautiful beaches and a protected area of rain forest where visitors can experience a canopy walk on rope bridges suspended high above the forest canopy.

Modern Ghana comprises the former british colony of the Gold Coast and the former mandated territory of British Togoland.  It is bordered by the Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) on the west, Burkina Faso on the north, and Togo on the east.

Close to Sekondi-Takoradi are also a number of old colonial forts once owned by the British and other European nations and used initially for trading in gold and other commodities, then latterly, as bases from which many hundreds and thousands of slaves were transported across the 'middle passage'.  Some of these have now been restored and are open to visitors as a lasting memorial to those who passed through their gates.

Plymouth

Plymouth is situated in the south west of England, nestled on the border between the counties of Devon and Cornwall.  Population is estimated at 252,000, and is becoming increasingly diverse as the city expands.

The coastal location has defined much of what Plymouth is famous for, trade and associations within the sea - there has been a long association as a naval port, an active fishing industry and also other varied shipping related industries.  In more recent years, the growth of water-related leisure activities has seen an increase in tourism and Plymouth as a yachting base.

Plymouth is also becoming an increasingly important base for many creative, media and science based companies.  Plymouth is proud to host both a university and a teaching hospital, organisations that attract students and staff from all over the world.

The region around Plymouth is renowned as an area of beauty, with many beaches, large areas of moorland and places of historic interest.
